Fajr Film Festival to open today

The 35th edition of Fajr Film Festival will open today.

The opening ceremony is scheduled to begin at 19:00 (Iranian Time) at Tehran’s Milad Tower on Saturday, January 28.

The event will be attended by artists as well as high-ranking officials including Iran’s Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Seyyed Reza Salehi Amiri and the Head of Cinema Organization of Iran Hojjatollah Ayoubi.

Four Iranian artists Farhad Tohidi, Touraj Mansouri, Mohammad Kasebi and Qolam Reza Mousavi will be commemorated during the ceremony.

The event will be hosted by Iranian presenter Ehsan Karami.

Fajr Festivals are held annually in Iran during the Fajr Decade (literally meaning ten days of dawn), which marks the anniversary of the ten days from the return of Imam Khomeini, founder of the Islamic Republic, to Iran (February 1) until the victory day of the Islamic Revolution (February 11) in 1979.

Established in 1982, the Fajr International Film Festival celebrates cultural exchange, displays creative achievements of highly acclaimed cineastes and pays tribute to local and international films.

Since its establishment, the Fajr Film Festival has played a vital role in the development of Iranian Cinema.

Supervised by Iran’s Ministry of Culture, the festival hosts veteran directors and new filmmakers from Iran and across the world every year.
